On August 23, 2009, ROH announced that Danielson had signed a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment. Danielson made his debut as a WWE contracted wrestler on January 4, 2010, in a dark match prior to Raw, defeating Chavo Guerrero. Later that week it was reported that Danielson had requested to go to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), the WWE developmental territory, to work off ring rust.
