“Angles” – The Lost Art of Management

Hello and welcome back to the first Angles column in over a month.  I’m sorry for the absence.  I took a new position at my work in the last couple of months and this last one has proven to be very busy and took some adjusting.  Regardless, I’m back and as I hinted yesterday, I have a decent topic in mind. Before I begin this week’s column piece, I want to announce that I will be taking over reviews of WWE’s Monday Night Raw beginning next Monday, May 10th.  Next week I will have the unique perspective of reviewing both WWE’s top brands.  Look for my Raw reviews starting on Monday. The WWE Draft has always been a pretty interesting time because we get to see who moves to what shows and what rivalries will bud from the movement. I, personally, was especially excited for this years Draft as a reviewer of WWE’s Friday Night Smackdown. I had hopes of gaining at least one big name, if not two or three. I had predicted Randy Orton would come to Smackdown and Edge would move to Raw. I got one of those right. But the WWE has decided to completely piss me off this year. So, I’ve come off of my hiatus a little early to bring you something new and fresh, and as you can probably guess from the title, this is going to be a little bit of a rant. “Angles” – Hardcore Psychology

This past weekend was rough on me from a wrestling sense. It brought me close to burn out, and I didn’t even write anything. Sorry about that, by the way. To help prevent the impending wrestling burn out, I have decided to go back into the archives from my days with Pro Wrestling Next to give you an “Angles Classic” so to speak. This week and next will feature older articles previously only published on the PWN Message Boards. This week is a bit shorter than most of my articles, but still a good read in my opinion. This and next week’s topics are subjects I hope to revisit and write fresh articles on in the near future. Read the rest of this entry

As promised last week, this week I am bringing you the first of at least two follow-ups to last week’s article. Last week, if you don’t remember, or are a first time reader (welcome, if you are), I talked about some of the gimmicks and storylines that the wrestling world has wanted us to forget about. Today we go a step further. To broaden the spectrum a bit, since writing last week’s column, I have become vastly interested in the angles and gimmicks that have slipped through the cracks, or to put it another way; things that have been forgotten by us, the fans, or the professional wrestling world. I’m really intrigued by looking back at some of the things that should forever be forgotten (Shockmaster) and things we (and the wrestling world) wish we could/would forget (remember Kevin Nash as “Oz?”). Well, today I prepare to sit through what is arguably one of the worst PPVs in wrestling history. I do this for two reasons, one, because I have wanted to re-watch this for the last several years, and two, for you, the reader. I will take this PPV match by match and offer my insights. It won’t be much like my review of Smackdown, per say. I won’t be grading the matches with star ratings or anything. But, I hope you all enjoy this journey as much as I plan to. So, without further ado, join me as I step into the “Wayback Machine” and travel over 14 years to 1996 and WCW’s UnCensored PPV. Read the rest of this entry

“Angles” Extra – Who Betta?

It is with a heavy heart that I write this brief Angles Extra today. The wrestling world was saddened to learn of the passing of Christopher Klucsaritis, better known as Chris Kanyon. All of us at Pro Wrestling Ponderings would like to send our condolences to the family of Chris Kanyon and hope Chris finds peace. Read the rest of this entry

“Angles” – Did That Really Happen??

This week’s column stems from several thoughts and discussion I’ve had over the past few months that were usually disjointed. Today I bring them all together. A couple of the conversations were talking about Chris Jericho. No, not the Chris Jericho we’ve all come to know and love over the last couple of years, I’m talking old school Chris Jericho; and a storyline that lives on, despite the “powers that be” wishing we could just forget it existed. That’s what this column is about, some of the gimmicks and stories ingrained in our memories despite the wrestling world wishing they never existed. Read the rest of this entry
