Wrestlemania Countdown: Ring of Honor- Better than our Best
Mar 3rd
After a really good show and a near five hour event, Ring of Honor was ready to climax Mania weekend with an event called Better than Our Best, a nod to a previous show that had been entitled At Our Best. This is a show that featured the return of Lance Storm after a ten month retirement as he competed for his first world title. Two of Blood Generation’s best took on Generation Next for the tag team title, and the feud between Colt Cabana and Homcide finally reached its’ end. More >
Wrestlemania Countdown: Ring of Honor-Supercard of Honor
Feb 25th
The action shifted to Chicago for night two of Ring of Honor’s first ever tripleshot. Even though this ended up being five hours that lasted until 1:00 a.m. in the morning central time and featured nine matches (with some brawls interspersed for fun), one match stood above the rest. It was a six man tag that wowed everyone live and the DVD audience. The start of the Dragon Gate six man tag match tradition began on this night. And then there was the that world title match that’s running dangerously close to 60 minutes. More >
Wrestlemania Countdown: Ring of Honor-Dragon Gate Challenge
Feb 17th
After a one year absence, Ring of Honor decided to run Wrestlemania weekend once again. This time, the company took a more ambitious route. Instead of running one show the night before Wrestlemania, the company would run their first tripleshot weekend. Chicago played host to the Friday and Saturday night of Mania weekend while Detroit, a relatively new market at that time, would get a special Thursday show. This would not be a B show by any stretch. Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe would have their final singles match in Ring of Honor while a very significant feud began and almost ended in the same night because of a near tragedy. This tripleshot also took place amidst the ROH/CZW war, but I’ll talk more about this next week when I review Supercard of Honor. This, along with six other shows, were combined to form the Milestone Series, one of the greatest collection of shows put together. With all that in mind… More >
Pushing Puroresu: Future of the Sport

This edition of Pushing Puroresu will feature Charles Schaeffer, creator of Puroresu Spirit, giving his take on perhaps Japan’s strongest young lion Katsuhiko Nakajima. In the future, most articles will feature works from both Charles and me, but this week he takes center stage while I tell you what I thought of the puroresu I was able to watch this past week. Enjoy, or face the wrath of a Danshoku Driver.

Defending Doi
.

. . Naruki Doi, the supposed ace, or top wrestler, of the Dragon Gate wrestling promotion, doesn’t get the respect he deserves. In 2006, he made a name for himself in the US due to his involvement in the now legendary original Dragon Gate six-man tag at ROH’s Supercard of Honor event. He was the leader of his own faction, the Muscle Outlawz, and one of the premiere wrestlers in the company. While respected as a strong competitor, Naruki Doi seemed like a guy who might always be trapped within the Speed Muscle tag team with heterosexual life partner and the fastest wrestler alive, Masato Yoshino. Ring Around Wrestling- The Weekend That Was Part 2
Jan 27th
Before I get into discussing Saturday night’s Dragon Gate USA card, major props to AAW for not only putting on their own show but for also handling what happened on Saturday night. The AAW ring also serves as the Dragon Gate USA ring when they’re in Chicago. Many of the production aspects were handled by AAW staff. AAW announcer Phil Colvin announced the entire card and a couple of the wrestlers were also featured. It was a long tough weekend for everyone involved with the company and major props to them for getting it together. More >
